Andrew Heyman, MD MHSA
Is an internationally recognized expert in Integrative and Metabolic Medicine. He is currently the Fellowship Director of Integrative Medicine at The George Washington University and is responsible for overseeing graduate education and multiple degree programs. Dr. Heyman created the first Masters degree in Integrative Medicine in the United States within a major academic center, and developed additional graduate curricula in Nutrition, Metabolic Medicine and Performance, Men’s Health, Biotoxin exposure and Neurodegeneration, and Administrative Health Services in Wellness settings. He has held Board certifications in Family Medicine, Integrative Medicine and Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine.
All About Andrew Heyman
Since 2014, Dr. Heyman has maintained a clinical and research focus on Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome, Biotoxin Illnesses, and exposure to Water Damaged Buildings. He has published almost two dozen papers in peer reviewed academic journals on the subject, along with Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker. Together, they edited the first medical textbook on the subject and continue their academic work today. Dr. Heyman is considered one of the world’s leading experts on the subject, having presented his work to congress, testifying in dozens of mold related legal cases, and conducting professional education to countless practitioners globally. He continues to maintain a private practice in northern Virginia, solely focused on patients with biotoxin related illness.
Dr. Heyman holds a Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and upon graduation, became the administrator at the University of Michigan Complementary and Alternative Medicine Research Center where he was responsible for administering a $7 million NIH grant to research alternative therapies for cardiovascular diseases.
Dr. Heyman attended the University of Michigan Medical School, graduating in 2004 while being awarded the Excellence in Family Medicine scholarship. He then completed a Family Medicine residency from the same institution, and became the first Fellow of Integrative Medicine as well. Upon completion of medical training, he stayed on as faculty to continue his academic work.
He is currently the Medical Director and Chief Information Officer of the Metabolic Code, a consulting company dedicated to offering health technology, education, and consulting services to the health and wellness industry.
Dr. Heyman has also held several leadership positions in the field of Integrative Medicine. He was the national clinical working group co-chair of the Consortium of Academic Health Centers for Integrative Medicine for 4 years, a collaboration of 57 North American universities involved in Integrative Medicine. He has been the online editor for the Journal of Men's Health in the section of Integrative Medicine, and held the position of Editor-In-Chief of the Internet Journal of Anti-Aging and Aesthetic Medicine. His research interests include the Stress response and NeuroEndocrinology, Cardiometabolic Disease, Men's Health and Neuroinflammation and Genomics of Biotoxin Exposure.
Finally, Dr. Heyman has been featured on the Discovery Channel, Martha Stewart Living Magazine, Ladies Home Journal, Natural Health Magazine and appeared in many other TV and print venues and is a widely sought after, and celebrated speaker around the world on many Integrative Medicine topics.
